There are multiple opportunities to become involved with the ABPTS certification process, including:
• Being an item writer.
• Participating in a specialty council.
• Becoming a member of ABPTS.
Applications are now being accepted for Specialty Council and ABPTS Board positions. The application deadline is July 31. See below for more details.
Deepen your knowledge of your specialty, grow yourself in areas outside of your practice, and gain exposure and network with individuals in your area of practice focus - and a way to give back to your profession.
The Process
Nominations for the ABPTS Board and positions for the 10 Specialty Councils open in May and close July 31. Appointees serve a four year term that begin in January.
The Specialization Academy of Content Experts accepts application from March through April, with two-year appointments beginning in January.
ABPTS Board
The ABPTS Board is the overseeing body of the ABPTS certification and comprised of nine board-certified physical therapists representing the 10 different specialty areas.
Become a Specialty Council Member
Specialty Council members are the carefully selected subject matter experts who guide nearly every element of the board certification operations in their areas, from developing eligibility requirements to evaluating applications. Serving on a council is a rich professional opportunity that connects you with other PT leaders and allows you to engage more deeply with your area of specialization.
Specialization Academy of Content Experts
Play a critical role in the specialty examination process while earning credit towards the maintenance of your specialty certification by becoming an item writer for ABPTS examination content.
